Which Kind of AI Leader Are You Right Now?

Ai Leader
AI leader

There are three kinds of leaders reading the AI news this week, and each one needs a different first move. This piece is written to help you find yourself.

What happened last week that changed the conversation?

An Anthropic researcher resigned publicly, warning that AI labs are racing ahead of safety. The CEOs of Anthropic and OpenAI, and separately Elon Musk, called for more caution. President Trump rejected the warnings and said the US cannot afford to slow down against China. Meanwhile cheap, capable Chinese models are closing the cost gap with the frontier labs fast.

What if you already spent your AI budget and got nothing back?

Many leaders handed a large budget to their CTO or CFO, watched it disappear within months, and are now asking what changed. Nothing changed except your understanding: a budget alone was never a strategy.

What if you have ignored AI so far?

You assumed the moment would pass, or someone else in the business would handle it. Last week’s news says otherwise. This is now a global race, and standing still has a cost.

What if you believe in AI but have not acted?

You sense this matters, you just do not yet know who to trust. That caution is healthy. It should not become paralysis.

What should every leader do this week?

Build the internal team you trust with this, and find the external partner who will tell you the truth rather than sell you a platform. That is the actual strategy, whichever group you are in. Automating what you already understand is not the same as having a strategy either.

Whichever group you recognized yourself in, the move is the same: build your team, build your strategy, and start now, while there is still time to lead rather than catch up.

If you are leading your organization through this, this is the kind of work I do with a limited number of senior leaders each quarter. → https://anglero.com/the-reset/
